About the Port of Charleston (Cruise Port Information)

The beautiful and historic city of Charleston has served as a shipping destination for over 300 years now. It is, we believe, the perfect spot for a cruise ship destination and origination point.

We'll show you why we think so by exploring our port city from the cruise line's point of view, making clear how Charleston will satisfy the line's operations team, the ship's captain and, most importantly, the passengers.

With the importance of operations in mind, the Port of Charleston has worked continuously to keep pace with modern cruise ship requirements.

We are capable of hosting any size cruise ship, and can cater our operations to fit the needs or desires of any cruise ship operations team. In fact, the QE2, the Norway, the Majesty of the Seas and the Meridian, have all enjoyed our Charleston hospitality.

The Passenger Terminal building, which is part of the cruise ship berth, is 18,000 square feet (1,672 square meters). Facilities in the terminal include:

  • Climate control with heat and AC
  • PA system for announcements, music
  • Elevator (the building is fully handicapped accessible)
  • Indoor check-in and Customs area
  • Movable check-in counters
  • Luggage carts/wagons for luggage portage
  • Hand trucks for individual's luggage
  • Private office and telephone for agent's and line's use
  • Pay telephones, inside and outside building, land and pierside
  • Telephone pierside hookup is available through the steamship agent
  • A U-shaped driveway at the pier provides direct access to the terminal building
  • There is a covered drop-off area for passengers and luggage at the terminal building
  • Visitor parking is available directly in front of the terminal
  • Available long-term storage for passenger vehicles with shuttle service
  • Port Police service provided while the ship is in port
  • An information desk is provided in the terminal building to assist passengers and crew for port-of-call vessels
